Alone yet not alone
Apr 02, 2025
Most people don't like the feeling of being alone. Some feel unwanted, sad, angry and other negative emotions. Lonely or alone is defined as having no one else present or on one's own. We all have the need to want to feel wanted and special to others. When we feel that is not apart of our lives it can hurt that individual and it may even cause things as serious as depression. Are we really alone? There is a hymn entitled I'm alone yet not alone. This song expresses the loneliness that we feel at times through temptation and circumstances around us. No matter how lonely you may feel the Lord is always there even when we feel that He has forsaken us. You may feel lonely in a place where things are not how you are used to it being. You may feel alone through a temptation that is getting the better of you as you try to live righteously. You may feel alone by always being by yourself and wanting something to cure you of that feeling. In all of these situations we may be alone but we are not alone! As Christians we may have times that we feel alone but Jesus knows and He has not left you or me by ourselves! You may be saying "Well Jesus does not know my situation so how can he understand what its like"? Imagine being Jesus knowing the pain that was going to come on the cross and those who were with you for so long have now forsaken you (Matt 26:56).
Jesus knows exactly what its like to be alone. Even though He was alone He had the strength from the Lord to die on the cross for you and me. It is mind blowing to think that second person of the God head would leave the glories of heaven submit himself to come to earth and know that those He created would crucify Him. The time that he needed someone there he died alone for you and me. Imagine you and your situation. We can get through anything because our source of strength comes from the same source that Jesus tapped into to fulfill the plan of the Father. It is hard sometimes though isn't it? Jesus is our perfect example in all things and we can draw strength from the Lord. I will love thee, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower ( Ps. 18:1-2). No matter what situation you find yourself in even if you have to bear it alone. The end of the song triumphantly says this: I will not be bent in fear you're the refuge I KNOW is near, any evil can be tamed for I KNOW I will be saved. Never frightened or on my own, I'm alone yet not alone. Remember the Lord is our strength and we may be alone but we are never alone!
